OVERVIEW
Are you a current college student or have you recently graduated (within the last six months) and are seeking a career in human resources? Valley Water’s mission is to provide Silicon Valley with safe, clean water for a healthy life, environment, and economy. We manage an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection, and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County’s 2 million residents.
The Next Gen Career Pathways Program is a newly developed program that is on track to become one of Valley Water’s Pillar Programs in addressing the future workforce through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) lens. Our main goal is to develop and maintain existing career pathway programs while creating and developing exciting new programs for Valley Water. Program development with outstanding program and project management skills is essential to build and continuing to grow programs and partnerships. We build strong relationships with internal and external partners to build new relationships and grow existing ones while utilizing management skills. Additionally, this program thrives on community and organizational outreach, specifically being able to connect with underrepresented communities.
INTERNSHIP LOCATION STATUS:
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.
This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.
Effective Monday, January 1, 2024, Valley Water will no longer require proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment for regular employees, temporary staff, student interns, retiree annuitants, and/or contractors.
Required License or Certificate
WE LOOK FOR INTERNS WHO:
• Are pursuing a Bachelor’s in Business, Human Resources, Communications, Marketing, Education, Political Science, or related field.
• Have internship, volunteer, and/or previous work experience in community outreach, education, communications, public relations, or human resources is ideal.
• Have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders, build relationships, and collaborate on projects.
• Are motivated individuals, organized self-starters, willing to learn, and hardworking.
• Have strong written and analytical skills, including the ability to develop and manage timelines, and resources to achieve project goals.
• Are comfortable engaging new people in any environment.
• Are experienced or passionate for developing marketing materials (e.g., flyers, brochures, toolkits, etc. with Adobe Suite) is a plus!
AS AN INTERN YOU WILL:
• Help to establish and implement a work experience stipend program for college students from local underrepresented communities.
• Develop strategic outreach methods and produce engaging social media campaigns for the Valley Water Next Gen Career Pathways Program opportunities.
• Improve connections with Minority Serving Institutions to assist with recruiting diverse candidates for the Summer Intern Program.
• Assist with coordinating college career and technical programs, workforce development partners, business and industry, employer liaisons, College departments, and other partners
• Educate students, teachers, and underrepresented communities about high-demand occupations in the water industry.
• Collaborate with local community colleges to establish partnerships and ensure program alignment.
• Utilize strategic resources, partners, and networks to maximize reach, broaden participation, and increase diversity.
• Other projects and duties as needed, including conducting surveys, assisting in organizing events, and creating presentations.
Selection Process
ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for this opportunity, you must:
• Be a current college student or recent graduate (up to 6 months post grad).
• Be able to commit at least 15-20 hours a week.
• Live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.
